There are some sessions that just feel special, and Kai’s senior portraits at Golden Ponds in Longmont, Colorado were definitely one of those. We aimed for golden hour — my favorite time of day to shoot — and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.
Kai’s personality is so easy-going and adventurous, which made walking around Golden Ponds a blast. This location is one of my favorites for seniors because of the variety it offers — a water fall, bridges, tall grasses, mountain views, and (at the right time of year) blooming wildflowers. As soon as I saw the flowers blooming, I knew we had to switch from our original plan of a barn setting. The wildflowers ended up being such a perfect backdrop for Kai’s country-inspired style.
Of course, no session at Golden Ponds is complete without a little adventure. I always encourage my seniors to get into the water if they’re up for it, and Kai didn’t hesitate. What we didn’t plan for were the baby crawdads living right where we stepped in. Let’s just say they weren’t too thrilled about us invading their space — but it made for a funny memory and some genuine laughs.
What stood out to me most about this session wasn’t just the beautiful scenery or Kai’s

country look — it was the feeling of gratitude I carried home afterward. I’ve known Kai’s mom since we were in 6th grade, so being trusted with this milestone felt extra meaningful. Moments like these remind me why I love senior photography so much — it’s about more than just the photos. It’s about connection, stories, and celebrating who these seniors are right now.
Kai absolutely rocked her session, and I’m so excited for her and her family to have these memories to look back on for years to come.
